A passing weather system brought snowfall and temperatures dropped to about -20C as voters prepared for the Republican party of Iowa’s presidential caucuses on 15 January. Candidates who would normally be criss-crossing Iowa in the final days before its first-in-the-nation caucus cancelled many of their events, as winter weather created unsafe travel conditions.
