Numerous Republican politicians and conservative media figures praised President-elect Donald Trump’s “border czar” pick on Monday.
Trump announced in a post on social media late Sunday night that he selected his former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Tom Homan, to be the new border czar.
“I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (‘The Border Czar’), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security,” Trump said in a statement.
“I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders,” he continued. “Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis responded to the pick: “Going from Kamala Harris as ‘border czar’ to Tom Homan should be in the dictionary as a textbook example of an ‘upgrade.’”
“Congratulations, @RealTomHoman you are a wonderful choice,” said Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
Commentator Mark Levin posted on X: “Tom Homan is a great patriot, and he will do a terrific job as Border Czar. Congratulations to Tom.”
CNN political commentator Scott Jennings noted that the pick signaled that Trump was “dead serious on deportations.”
“Tom Homan as border czar,” wrote Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro. “Still not tired of the winning.”
Professor Gad Saad said that the pick was a “fantastic choice” and called Homan a “honey badger,” a recognition of his tenacity.
President Trump naming Tom Homan as border czar signals that he’s dead serious on deportations. And he should be – it’s overwhelmingly popular & is only being treated as controversial by the hysterical. pic.twitter.com/uhAYD89etg

Homan made a name for himself during the first Trump administration after being appointed acting director of ICE and immediately began ramping up deportations. In the first three months of Trump’s first term and under Homan’s leadership, ICE arrested more than 41,000 illegal immigrants, which was a 38% increase over the same period from the year before. Homan impressed Trump as acting director, and the president tapped him to lead ICE permanently, but in April 2018, Homan announced that he was retiring over “family and personal considerations.”
